While the series title may bring to mind magical carousel rides of death, there’s really no connection. This is my darkest series, by far, but it’s been an interesting journey! Even though I feel like this series has really pushed me to grow in my writing and step out of my comfort zone, it has been incredibly tough to write. The idea for this series came from two words out of one of The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. He referenced one of the characters’ “godling hunger” and those two words really stuck with me. I couldn’t help but wonder what it would do to a person to be born with a strange hunger for pain and suffering that they had no explanation for.
Wicked Hunger
Someone Wicked Series, Book 1
Vanessa and Zander Roth are good at lying.
They have to be in order to hide their uncontrollable hunger for pain and suffering. Living a normal life is out of the question, but neither of them are willing to admit that quite yet.
The careful balance they struggle to maintain is upended by the arrival of Ivy Guerra. It’s not just the vicious hunger she inspires that terrifies Van. The secrets she brings with her are far more dangerous.
As Van’s suspicions mount and her determination to unmask Ivy grows, she begs Zander for help. They’ve fought together against their hunger for so long. This shouldn’t be any different. Blinded by his fascination and attraction to Ivy, Zander brushes off his little sister’s conspiracy theories.
One of them is right about Ivy…but if they lose control of their hunger, it won’t matter. One little slip, and they’ll all be dead.
Wicked Power
Someone Wicked Series, Book 2
Vanessa and Zander Roth sit balanced on the edge of impending death and unthinkable power.
Their enemies hide, waiting for their chance to strike, while Vanessa and Zander are forced into the ranks of the Godlings. Even though David’s brutal training is indeed improving their control, his methods are cruel and harsh.
Van struggles to survive his torment while Zander embraces it. Full control of his power is his only hope of redeeming himself.
The situation for Van worsens when her always reliable intuition strengthens into frightening visions that leave her fearful of Zander’s future. She is desperate to protect her brother, but her sixteenth birthday and the eruption of the full strength of her hunger demands her full focus. Redemption and protection both take a backseat when a shocking discovery puts everything they’ve worked for in jeopardy. The choice between safety and freedom has never been more important, but the ability to choose is fading fast.
Wicked Glory
Someone Wicked Series, Book 3
Faced with holding up their end of an impossible bargain, Van and Zander can either play nice and stay safe or keep digging up the truth and risk everything.
When Zander fails to reproduce the spectacular show of power David is so desperate to see again, he finds himself out of favor with his supposed mentor and at risk of breaking his agreement with the Eroi.
His only option to avoid the Eroi’s wrath is to work more closely with them, once again subjecting himself to Ivy’s mind-stealing presence. Fighting his hunger becomes secondary to convincing her that the Eroi’s lies and betrayal extend to who and what she really is.
Once the most detested of the Roth siblings, Van has now become David’s pet. It’s clear he intends to take her into his inner circle, but at what price?
Safety for her and her family lies in meeting David’s demands. It also forces Van to decide what she’s willing to do in order to stay in his good graces. Committing to becoming David’s protege requires crossing a line she never expected to get even close to. Can she live up to his expectations without losing herself completely?
Wicked Revenge
Someone Wicked Series, Book 4
Secrets are unraveling, but they only reveal more questions and nowhere near enough answers.
While the Roth siblings attempt to recover from a devastating confrontation with the Godlings, they each must face their own demons before they can have any hope of defeating those who hunt them.
In the midst of trying to hold their personal lives together, the Roths are called upon to rescue the captured Richiamos from the Eroi’s ever-tightening grasp. Their plan seems promising until traitorous actions threaten to tear the Godlings apart.
Battling both the traitors and the Eroi is complicated further when it becomes apparent that victory won’t be possible unless they can discover the truth of the Godlings’ purpose.
The battles the Roth siblings are expected to win seem endless, but if they can hold onto each other and their sanity long enough to survive, they might just save everyone.
